I remember my sister coming home from school and flooding the hall with enthusiasm, declaring "you're gonna love this activity, it's right up you're street. I thought of you as soon as I saw it in the Metro," waving the article in my face. She was right. Zip wire is very evocative of going on zip lines in parks as a child and the outdoors adventures in my year 6 trip to PGL.
There was a thrill about the adrenaline rush of doing something that is outside of my comfort zone, defeating the daunting heights and doing an upbeat activity that reconnects with childhood memories and experiences, which is a true attainment. My main qualm was the harness and the safety equipment not being secure enough to hold me and the hazards of disconnecting from the wire, I just had to close my eyes and take a few breaths because I knew it'd be over before I knew it. It seriously only lasted for 30 seconds getting from one 35m high podium to the next, it was a short burst of acceleration that was exceptionally liberating. Rather than being vigilant on the views of Big Ben, the Shard, the Thames and the London Eye; because due to the speed they were blurred anyway, I focused on the motion. The continuous gliding motion that allowed the pendulous limbs to swing freely like bird wings, it was the closest to flying I've ever been involved in!
