Read Me (winky face)

I did visit independent bookshops in galleries and cafés around London but the book buried beneath the heap of miscellaneous items in my sister's room topped it.

The graphic novella is based on the comic strips Grayson revisited from when he was 12, illustrating the boy's own adventures that channelled adolescent sexuality and his fascination with cross-dressing. It is a story of a man driven to kill by childhood demons and the satire on psychotherapy, the cycle of violence is a term that refers to the repetition of dangerous acts of violence as a cyclical pattern, associated with high emotions of retribution. The novella connects with Grayson's psyche and childhood, resurrecting the anger, self-doubt and sadomasochism, there is a disturbing juxtaposition between the eco-friendly cycling and recycling within and the metaphor it manifests.

From the grim violently sexual illustrations there is an essence of battling male insecurities, questioning man's own masculinity due to the cruel social constructs. The illustration portrays courageousness and bravery for males to dominate their own identity. Man isn't about what you think masculinity should be, man is taking ownership for what you deliver- whether you are biologically boy or girl. Stoicism and self-defence is depicted through the straddled position and the frequency of the erect phallic imagery, bulging veins, muscular body anatomy and CRASH! Notably this man is prepared for destruction, showing he has the strength and ability to conquer!
