TED- Time Well Spent.

Tristan Harris
@TED

Have you ever heard your parents say "you're always on that bloody phone!"?
It's all about restoring choice in the way we engage with technology so that we ensure time is well spent. It is finding that middle ground so that we don't become stuck in a realm of distraction and we don't have that fear of missing out if we completely disconnect from technology.

Harris tells us that we need help from designers that will alter the goals of technology slightly in order to meet our individual needs comfortably. Reforming technology so that it is not just for convenience, however changing the goal to a deeper human value that is more compassionate and respectful to our everyday lives. It should be a priority to redefine the meaning of successful technology, instead of focussing on it's popularity with consumers, the positive contribution to human life and consumers' demand should be primary. Design that will listen to the consumer and will put the consumer first, design that will not focus on time spent but time well spent.
